Jesus is The Only Way

Jesus is The Only Way

After a long trip, it feels good to start the journey home. An even better feeling comes when you finally park the car and walk through the front door. Home sweet home! There’s a peace that comes from knowing you’re exactly where you belong. That’s the peace that Jesus offers every person who turns to Him.

On the night before He died, Jesus told His followers, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me” John 14.6 NLT. This short verse contains several bold claims.

  1. Jesus claimed that He is the way. Through His life, death, and resurrection, He provided and paved the only way back to God.
  2. Jesus claimed that He is the truth. He didn’t say that He was only pointing to the truth; He said that He was the truth of God in bodily form.
  3. Jesus claimed that He is the life. Only in Jesus can a person find true and abundant life. Apart from Him, we can do nothing of eternal significance.

These claims make many people today scratch their heads, asking how Jesus can be the only way to God when there are so many different religions. The simple answer is that no one else is like Jesus.

He is the only one who fulfilled hundreds of ancient Old Testament prophecies about the coming Messiah. He is the only one who lived a sinless life. While other religious leaders have claimed to know God, Jesus actually claimed to be God. He is the only one to defeat the grave. Check the graves of other religious leaders, and you will find their bones, but Jesus’ grave is empty.

Compared to everyone else, Jesus is in a class by Himself. That’s why He can legitimately say that He is the only way to God.

But traveling the way of Jesus is a choice that many people still reject. They insist on following their own ways instead, ways that lead to a different destination. According to Jesus, “The highway to hell is broad, and its gate is wide for the many who choose that way. But the gateway to life is very narrow and the road is difficult, and only a few ever find it” Matthew 7.13-14 NLT.

There is only one way back home. It’s a narrow way that goes through Jesus alone. 1 John 5.12 NLT makes it clear: “Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have God’s Son does not have life.”
